Team BLESSIE
Project Overview
Team BLESSIE is a grassroots fitness community that believes fitness should be fun, inclusive, and accessible to everyone. They needed a digital platform to showcase their positive approach to fitness and attract new members.
The challenge was creating a website that captures their authentic, encouraging spirit while providing practical information about joining their activities and races.
Project Details
Design Challenge
Combat fitness intimidation and exclusivity, appeal to beginners and seasoned athletes alike, showcase the fun supportive community aspect, provide clear information about joining, and highlight achievements without being boastful.
We created a warm, welcoming visual design with energetic colors, authentic relatable copy like "Not just athletes, just trying!", focused on community stats over individual achievements, used clear low-pressure call-to-actions, and emphasized fun and friendship over competition.
Website Features
"I never thought I could be part of a running group, but Team BLESSIE made me feel welcome from day one. It's about encouragement, not competition."
- New Team Member
Achievements Section
Celebrates the team's collective accomplishments while maintaining an inclusive tone. Shows progress and growth rather than intimidating achievements.
- • 5+ amazing members (growing!)
- • 10+ races completed together
- • ∞ fun memories made
- • Emphasis on participation over performance
Every piece of copy emphasizes inclusivity and fun over performance metrics. The messaging removes barriers and fear from fitness participation.
Inclusive Messaging
Carefully crafted copy that welcomes everyone, regardless of fitness level. The tone is encouraging, authentic, and removes intimidation from joining.
- • "Not just athletes, just trying!"
- • "Whether you're training for your first 5K or just want to move"
- • Focus on support and journey, not results
- • Casual, friendly language throughout
Visual Design Approach

Energetic orange and warm tones to convey enthusiasm, energy, and approachability without being overly aggressive or competitive.

Clean, friendly fonts that feel approachable and modern. Emphasis on readability and warmth rather than aggressive sports styling.
Imagery Style

Member Retention
The welcoming website design helped attract members who had previously felt intimidated by traditional fitness groups. Many new joiners mentioned the website made them feel like they belonged before even attending their first event.
"The website perfectly captures what we're about - it's not about being the fastest or strongest, it's about showing up and supporting each other. We've welcomed so many new friends since launching!"
Design Insights
Lower the Barrier
Fitness intimidation is real. Using inclusive language and avoiding elite imagery made the biggest difference in attracting diverse members.
Authenticity Wins
The honest "just trying" approach resonated more than polished fitness marketing. People want real community, not perfection.
Focus on Journey
Highlighting progress and community support rather than achievements attracted people looking for belonging, not competition.
Visual Warmth
Warm colors and friendly design elements immediately communicate approachability and counter typical "hardcore" fitness aesthetics.
